Bring on the rain

Well here is our new rain chain we have been pondering on. I didn't want a traditional downspout sticking out here on my porch and our gutter man suggested a rain chainI had never heard of one before. Mike got on the Internet and found a few copper ones for a pretty penny. So we thought we could come up with something fun.
The down spout drops into an old bucket with a whole cut out of the bottom, into a big funnel I found at a tag sale. Then it falls into an old cistern pipe.

From there the chain flows into one of my old chicken feeders I got this weekend. We have holes drilled into the feeder to allow the water to drain onto the brick pavers and onto my beddings. The water follows the chain during a rain shower. It is fun to watch it. And believe me we have had plenty of opportunity to watch the rain the past two days.

Theres a view of the covered deck to at the patio doors. I can now decorate more area without to worry of rain or weather on my treasures!

And connected to that is the pergola side. I wanted to have one side open where you could still look up into the trees. It is still shaded in the afternoon!

We can enjoy the humming birds here. It looks out of the kitchen window. The humming birds fly under the pergola now!!

Sorry same view!

Ok, these are the goodies Mike brought home from a tag sale up north of us. He had some business up north by Wichita and just stumbled by this sale where,"Grizzly Adams" was moving. He said the place was just a junk pile, you know, my kind of place!! He had these tubs filled with flowers. Mike dumped them out. The old boy wanted $10. each!

Then he found these jewels. Chicken feeders, a great old pulley I may use on my porch. A couple more galvanized tubs there. The big one was full of flowers. Theold guy drilled holes in it. I may just hang it from my someday shop. I'm nt sure what the fluted tin pans were for? Any guesses?

One of the washtubs had this old wringer attached to it. But I will probably hang it in my laundry room. I have been wanting one of those for awhile. An old watering can, pitch fork, some enamelware and the old guy said the tall can was an old milking can! A great haul Mike brought home! He made a pile and offered $50. Yea! I was just thrilled. I played all weekend in the yard with my goodies.

Mike also had his new (junk) antique toy to play with this weekend. He purchased this old 1938 Cadillac from California on EBay and it was finally delivered this weekend. So he started tearing out the old interior and banging around on it. He is going to lower it, and put some custom paint on it. Fun Fun!! Well I just got rid of the entire JV cheer leading squad. They were practicing a dance for half time in my living room!! Just dropped them off at practice. It was picture night too so they were in the bathrooms and bedrooms primping!! Ohhhhh. I need to go in and pick up the trashed living room and clean up the pop cans and subway wrappers!! Have a great week you all!

Autumn Harvest

Well, I'm slowly getting ready for fall. I started earlier that usual because the cool temps have put me in the mood for autumn. I love this display on my deck with my new roof and pergola. I have found I can put things on the porch now without them getting wet and weathered so I have new square footage to play with now! I found this display idea from the new fall Country Sampler. There is a display like this in it and I fell in love with it.
I took three bushel baskets and stuffed them with newspaper and stacked them. I placed some greenery in the bottom one and raffia in the middle one and pumpkins on top. I found these pumpkins at Hobby Lobby. They look so real!!

On the other side of the patio doors I have this display in the old black chippy chair.

I love my dried sunflowers. I keep them out all year and added Mr. Scarecrow!

Took down all my flags and put up some acorns and pumpkins. I made some stained pumpkins from the dollar store from Chars tutorial!

The mantle has the old antique scooter under it.

I put up my shelf I bought at a tag sale and repurposed. I found these scales the other day for $2.

In my entryway I have his table sitting and I replaced my galvanized bucket with another bushel basket full of pumpkins.

This is the dresser I found on the curb a few yrs back that I repainted and I placed a rusty basket full of greenery and pumpkins. I will try to post some pics of our new porch roof this long weekend. We are still working on our rain chain for the downspout! I think alot of you will love this idea!! Happy Fall Y'all!!

Hot "TOP"ics

I have been out of the loop for a while. Mike took a week off to work on the new roof and pregalo for the deck. We have been thinking about putting on a roof for the deck for a while. The patio door was beginning to weather a bit . It was either spend a $1000. on a new door or $1500. on a whole new topper. It would get so hot out there. The far end is to be the pergola and this end at the door entrance will be a covered roof. To get in out of the rain and snow, and SUN!
Before~ We worked hard all week. It rained on us two days so hopefully tomorrow we will finish up the sheeting on top and I will post! Of course I've already started to put the things back on the deck.

We just finished up our first week of school. Here is Taylor starting for her first day of high school! It wasn't long ago she stood on this same porch poising for her first day of kindergarten. She had really enjoyed this week. Band practices and cheerleading practice starts on Monday.

I hit a tag sale this morning. I found this old bowl for .50. I loved it! Well it's late and I'd like to catch up on some blogs. I miss reading them every day, but where has the time gone since school started? Have a great weekend! Its some beautiful temps here this weekend!!!

MOre chicken feeders from a week ago!

Friday Finds!

Before~
After~

This is a makeover I did this week. I love how it turned out! So much I'd love to keep it, but put it where?? I sprayed it black, sprayed it cream, sanded it and stained it. I added an old rusty wire and I think its so cute.

A town close by has this cute cute prim/craft shop that I love to visit. She had a add in the paper that she was having a yard sell! I got some fun things. The cream star bucket is lighted. The flat box in the background is rough but she painted on it and I pd. $3. I thought I could use it in my someday shop to hold small samplers or material. The old watering can is really rough but she painted on it and I pd. $5. The wire rack was $2. I thought magazines or paper plates would be fun. The red stripe can is an old paint can I think,$3.

I love the little rabbit guy holding a bag of carrots. I paid a pricey $14 for him. The wire rack behind was only $4. and the white cabinet front with the cut out star was $4. I didn't get a good shot of the feeder in the back, Love it. She painted on it too. $12.

This piece I just bought about half hour ago at a tag sale for $2.50 Thought I'd paint it up prim.

The green hinged box would be cute painted up on a desk. More zinc lids. I pd. .25 per jar. I mainly wanted the lids. Rolling pin was $1 and the box I might paint up to put in Taylor's room. She has things on her dresser that end up on the floor all the time. I'll paint it up one of the three colors of her room.

More goodies. I got these Thurs. night at a tag sale. The canisters were all inside each other. I pd. .75 for all this!! I'll paint up the canisters and hanging thing. The bread box is to cute to paint.
Well I have been having such good luck on Friday sales. It's been so hot. Taylor finished up with band camp tonight. They just had a pool party and now are going bowling tonight. I helped during lunch this week. We feed them in the high school cafeteria. My first yr. experience with band booster. We are looking into several fundraisers for a trip to San Antonio Tx. this yr. It's going to get very busy with her schedule I think. Well I've mowed this afternoon and I need to go water. Better get out there. Have a great weekend.

What a junk weekend!

I had a pretty good tag sale weekend!! I found tons. This was a bargain for $10. I didn't need it, I have one almost like it in my yard. But when the old boy said he just have to have $10 for it, I couldn't leave it.It folds down into a bed!! I drug it home and a fellow junker stopped by to borrow a tool and she just had to have it for her new deck they are building. She can do something with these old cushions that are shot. She'll have it looking so cute. Junk Camp has one posted that looks just like it and I love her cushions she has used on it! She will have to let me come over and post some pictures of her finished deck. She has been collecting treasures for it for awhile.
These I also found at the same sale. The mans son had just moved into an old farm house that has a dairy barn. He had two sets of crates for sale. I paid, (get ready) $5 for two full crates with bottles!! I know! I took the two and he said oh I have more! So I asked for two more sets of them for my fellow junker that bought my glider! She loved them as I did. She thought of a great idea~can't you see flags filling each bottle or I thought of Gerber Daisy's. I just love them and I think two crates stacked on top of each other just makes them. I could even label the milk bottles! Also from this sale. I know!! I bought the old galvanized tub, it's got a hole in it but I put it up on the side of my someday shop. The circlely thing is an old light fixture that I am going to have Mike hook up out on my porch area of the pool. I have been wanting an old light fixture out there. I have a fixture with two spot lights now , but this old one will be perfect. It was laying under a bush as we were loading the pickup and I pulled it out and asked if it was for sale. He said, anythings for sale. Well that's just what I like to hear. Mike and I went on down to the barn and found a couple tubs and buckets with the old jars in them.

I also found this table top and a piece of a door. I took it and used it for a dough board on my new washer and dryer. You can see it further down on this post. It was the perfect size and patina already!!

This is a little drawer I found at a tag sale for .25, painted it up black. I'll probably save it for my shop.

I love this. I downloaded the pics backwards. This is my after. I love the color. I painted it black, then brick red and sanded the heck out of it and stained it with dark walnut and wiped it off. I have it sitting in my laundry room on my new dough board!

This is the before. I cut off the little legs a bit.

This is also out of order. This is the after of a bread box I bought at a thrift store this weekend for $2. The top rolls up. I'll put it in my someday shop. I do love it but I don't have much room left on my counter tops. I will just enjoy it for awhile. I again painted it, I actually spray painted it flat black, (so much faster) then spray painted it an almond color and stained it with the dark walnut and wiped it off.

The before, and a cute little candle holder thingy I sprayed flat black and scuffed up. I don't think I took a pic of this finished yet.

I know I took a lot of pics today! Here's more goodies I found. The grater was $1. I love the old refrigerator jars(.25) I have one already, they keep tea so cold. A wooden bowl I have painted up already and the black thing is a candle holder.

This is the old white mountain ice cream freezer I told you about the other day that my mom bought for $3. It was in pieces. I actually thought it would be harder to put back together. Some nice old soul had numbered the slates and it went right together. I wired it and glued the bottom.

This I pd $1 for, I might just leave it this color.

This is a cool little retro bread box. Paid $2 for it. I will just clean it up to resale.

We bought new washer and dryers the other day! I love them and I love my new space to decorate! I have the whole top of the appliances to use now. Mike thought I might want the drawers that go under them to make them taller. But I think I might either leave the dough boards on them or get some wooden crates to put between the cabinets and the appliances. I like the looks of all my treasures on top thought! The dough board on the left is the one I bought this weekend( the part of an old door)

A little closer view of the new boards. Oh, the one on the right, I made about a week ago. I cut the board myself with Mikes saw, I even used his nail gun for the first time. It was so easy! I stained it and whala!

I'll finish up this long post with a few new pics of Taylor's room. I have had these three framed cork boards painted for months. I just hadn't hung them yet. I had made a list of things I wanted to get done this summer and hanging these was the last thing I have to do!! I should have done it sooner. She now could hang up her Jonas Brothers posters that she bought. I had painted them the three different colors of her room. Olive green, rich brown and light blue to match her bed spread and curtains. She doesn't have a headboard so I thought these could kind of be used as a focal point. She likes it. That's all that matters! Well sorry I have rambled on in this post. I really got a lot done this weekend, have found places for most of my treasures I bought. It was a great junk weekend here!
